A word from Jamie McCartney

 

Artist Jamie McCartney was kind enough to let me include a picture from his incredible "The Great Wall of Vagina" project on this website. Please read what he says about the name used:

“When I started the project in 2006 it needed a name. Back then, even more so than now, ‘vagina’ was common parlance for the whole genital area. Despite knowing that using ‘vagina’ was a misnomer, I chose to use a more commonly used word than ‘vulva’ in order to reach the maximum audience. The title is a pun on "The Great Wall of China” and a deliberate use of humour to get past people’s natural anxieties about looking at images of female genitals in public!”
